People: Me and ViperSD
Duration:6.30-11.15
Tide: Low water 11.30
Weather: nice cool calm, very bright moon until the lunar eclipse
Bait:lug mackerel eels
Rigs: 3 hook flappers, 1 up 1 down, wishbones, mostly with 20lb snoods and size 1 and 2 b940s
Results: Me 2 thornie, biggest bout 6-7lb other bout 2.5lb, 8 whiting rangin from 24cm to 28cm, 1 fat rockling. Sean 1 thornie, 9 whiting and a rockling
Catch and Release:: Yes/No 4 dead whiting taken home for the uncle
Report: Fancied our chances of getting a few whiting in darkness tonight and we were glad to see a few there. Good to get some predictions right. Didnt predict ray at this mark though although we have caught the odd one here before.
Having arrived to set up before darkness I knew we wouldnt have many fish until the tide went out some more. The first two hours I think we had two fish each. From about 8.30 the fishing begin to speed up. Missing a few bites from fish was frustrating but we started to hook them then.
The two of us were watching my rod, getting the classic whiting rattles, I turn away and next thing the rod is being pulled over along with the rod rest. Strike into it and it leads to a nice double, my biggest ray of the year so far and a nice whiting on size 2 b940 and 15lb snood. Sean started to get a few whiting too. Two casts later, I had my back turned baiting up a trace, rod rest keels over and rod smashs to the ground. Another nice double, small ray and whiting. Nice way to christen a new reel I got , Daiwa Emblem Pro 4500. Very good fixed spool, nice to use for a change from the multipiers.
Bout 9.30 Sean had the only treble whiting of the night. About 10.20 Sean got his ray, on a 10lb snood ha. He hooked into a BIG fish later, but it went to ground bout 20 yards out and the fish lost. Probably a big huss or maybe a ray, but Id say a huss tbh. Good nights fishing
