It could be a long spinned sea scorpion.What size was it? if it was longer than 6 inches then its a short spinned but if it was smaller then it could be either.

In the photo it looks like it has quite long spines,that along with its size would suggest it was a long spinned sea scorpion not a short spinned but without actually seeing it i wouldn`t like to say for def.Next time you catch one have a look under its head there will be a fold of skin running from gill to gill if its a short spinned,also the long spinned has one noticably long spine on each cheek hence its name.hope this helps
