I fished off the beach during the evening caught nothing till it got dark and then all hell broke loose when it got dark most cast's a doggie and one flounder all i had was fish baits and I was using a 2 up one down trace clipped down with cascades and casting around 30 yds past the last breaker and lost a nice fish not sure what it was, but like to think it was a bass.

Like I said before I recon the West coast beaches are great to fish in darkness and its a pity not many people fish them in Clare at night as most of the fishing is similar to the east coast whie fishing at night.
If you were fishing a match on a surf beach in Clare distance would be an advantage for gaining points wiith dogs and whiting.
