hi lazycod, you are going the right direction but keep going along the road past the wooden pier. when u come to the end u will c the entrance to an army camp. turn right and follow the road round the bend. follow this road till the end and u will c a small river that runs out onto the beach. fish off this beach for flounder.

Id say there would be a few good conger to be had round belfast docks but the good spots are prob out of bounds :roll:

I believe the locals call this spot keeky bay. maybe a few brown trout about this part of the lough.
I was told this is a good spot for doggies and gave it a bash last october but blanked. lost a few rigs too on account of my line being snagged among mussels.

I asked about fishing the harbour before and was told it is not allowed from the weir to the point of the harbour where it meets the lough.

thats right grabster, it is called 'keeky bay' as well, referring to the pollution. there is a big area of mussel beds to the right of the beach but if u fish close to the wee river its a clear bottom the whole way out. there is sea trout and salmon here in season but in very low numbers, they wouldn't be worth targeting. also this is a swallow beach and at low tide it really goes out a long way. take care if u are fishing at low tide that when the tide turns it doesn't fill behind u. for anyone who targets mullet there are hundreds of them in this bay, rising and jumping all round u. i don't think this mark really starts fishing till late april/may but i could be wrong.

Hey guys just be carefull where you fish. My job takes me down to the harbour a couple of times a month and I was thinking the same thing, access to deep water in the main channels (i.e. up at the Victoria terminal). I approached the Harbour police to see if there was any special permissions needed granting as the Harbour Commissioners (owners of the majority of the land and waterways in the area) tend to run the area tightly. A very helpful officer told me that there where by-laws in place to prohibit fishing in commercial ports. Any-one fishing could be arrested and prosecuted so if you wish to fish the area, then take care. He did however mention the Holywood spot. Said it seems to get very popular during the warmer months.

On a side note I have a contact on the rivers authority and within the Laganside Corporation. I am trying to see if there would be any issue with fishing the Lagan between Mays Meadow and the weir. Place is teaming with Mullet during the summer, might give it a go, has anyone tried the area yet?

u r safe enough to fish the area i suggested but drewk is right, if u cross the river u r on the harbour estate were the harbour police patrol. so just stay on the beach.

anyone know how the small pier in carrick infront of the police station fishes?

got bait and few hours to kill might give it a go later on

I did fish the area around airport road in the summer months and got mackerel I did'nt know about the by laws, I fished just to the right of the bird sanctuary on airport road west just past the bp oil it is deep water and looks like it would have a few conger?? one thing that has'nt been mentioned it can be DANGEROUS!!! there is a huge backwash from the ferrys I have seen the water level drop more than 10ft in seconds when one of the ferrys pass so be very careful...Lazy

Tried it twice myself last summer but drew a blank both times.
Got plenty of advice from passing locals telling me not to waste my time as well.

it can be a bit snaggy as well.

lol ill give it a miss then. had a few codling off Whitehead 2 weeks ago and lost somethig good so ill probably head donw there for a go

Aye hairy just by it and at the back of w5 im working in there on a long reach theres bound to be something about its very deep water just off the edge i put the jib in the other day and it near disappeared and its 40ft long!! Its funny i never see anybody fishing down there would be very easy fished

Have been following this thread with interest cause I've often thought of fishing this area. With the amount of food sources around (lug, crabs, rag, mussels) there must be flounders etc.
Missus used to work along Airport Road and I had often thought about the wee stretch of shoreline just as you enter the Harbour Estate via Holywood Exchange (Sainsbury's, B&Q) - opposite a buiding called "Clare House". Casting directly out would put you at right angles with the area you guys are calling Keeky Bay. It looks a comfortable spot to fish from and you certainly wouldn't be cramped for space.
The only concern that I had surrounded the security - I'm sure you would need permission but thought the guys in the security hut might have obliged.
I need to call at B&Q sometime soon when I do I'll have a word with the security guys to get the low down on whether fishing is permitted or not. Keep you posted.
