Suggestions on a New Rod...

#1 Post by glengormley-gavin »

Lads,

I'm in the market for a new beach rod.

I would be using it for all clean beach work and it has to be able to handle a pendulum cast.

Casting weight 3 - 6oz

I am planning to spend around £150 - £200.

All suggestions welcome.

Abu suveran sx. this rod can be picked up for around 150.

OR

Daiwa tdxs 129pm. this rod can be picked up for 200.

Both superb rods but i would be a bit bias toward the daiwa because it has a softer tip.

soft tip is nice on a rod for clean beach, especially if the beaches you fish have little tidal movement.

Hi Jude,

Several options spring to mind.

Daiwa TDXS range ( not 130xm )
Abu Suveran Sx or Rx
Greys Syntra or PZ Match
Cono-Flex Frenzy

If you intend to pendulum cast then don't go beyond 14ft as they become a bit of a handful for people around our height.

If you want to try any of mine then give me a ring.

Thanks lads.

The Daiwa TDXS range is looking attractive.

Also considering,
- AA 13' Surf - 3-5oz - anyone used one?
- Zziplex 3500 PTX

.... too much bloody choice......

Bigphil has a Zippy 3500, are they not outside your price range though?

If not then thet would be very high on my list as I was lucky enough to have a go with his, lovely rod. 8)

the 3500 fits the bill nicely, although its stated rating is 3-6 oz i find it works best with 4oz+baits.

a couple of rods in the greys and anyfish anywhere range also well worth a look.
Not the BigPhil from Irish Angler mag, I'm the original, i swear!!!!
