Diawa Supercast Mk II

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

I got this a while ago now. It has become my favourite rod. Its absolute cracker. Well impressed with the hidden power and great bite detection.

Hi,

What's the Supercast Mk II? Have both the older model PM version and the newer one and love them both, fabulous rods, absolutely love 'em and have gotten rid of far more expensive rods from the likes of Zziplex and Century that just didn't hold a candle to these ones in terms of all round fishing/casting rods

Liamo,

The Supercast Mk 2 is quite an old rod, have had mine for about 13 years.

They were superceeded by the Team Daiwa, then the Team Daiwa-S and recently the TD range(below the current Supercast)

The model I have is the TDPK13m(13ft Multiplier) and while rod design has come a long way, they are still a lovely fishing rod, nowhere near as powerful as the PM version of the current Supercast but as a fishing rod, they are soft enough not to destroy baits and allow any caught fish to put up a decent scrap. The main benefit of them is that they have a good tip for bite detection and are easily enough bent that ANYONE can cast them(they don't bite). 8)

My dad gave it to me and never really used it much and he bought it over ten years ago. but it is an extremley light and very user friendly. It really doesnt give any kick back to the reel but can throw a bait just over the 120 yard mark without destroying the bait. As I said it has become my favourite rod.

I also have a TDPK13M. On another thread a few months back I mentioned I was looking at the TDXS as a replacement/additional/alternative/spare rod, that might give me some more options over slightly rougher ground.

I've decided not to go for the TDXS (because I want to spend some cash on a new lure rod). Any suggestions for a slightly cheaper alternative to the TDXS? Would the current supercast fall into this category? Which one would you recommend, given the use I've outlined.

I'm not a "power caster", but can do a reasonable layback/overhead thump in most conditions.

Hi Teacher,

There are quite a few variants of the current Supercast range. If you are looking for something that is capable of dealing with slightly heavier ground ( not a genuine rough ground plug puller ) then why not take a look at the current Supercast 13PM ( power multiplier ), there is also a rough ground model ( 13RGM ) but this may be a bit overgunned for your needs. If you are willing to look elsewhere then there are suitable rods from other manufacturers but the promo price on the Supercasts make them hard to beat for the money.

Hope this helps
