Duration: 4.00pm - 7.30pm

Tide: HT 19:29

Weather: Light westerly breeze with intermittant heavy showers

Bait: Lugworm, Razor, Squid

Rigs: 2 up, + 1 clipped

Results: 2 Codling (1lb + 3/4lb)

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report: There was a huge surf after the high winds of the last few days. Waves were between 6 - 12ft and there were between 4 and 5 breakers going out 200 yds.The sea was very coloured - not just pea-soup but the colour of muck. From the start weed was a problem. So much so that stopped using two rods and opted for one instead. For the first two hours things were quiet. Then as it got dark I had the first fish - a codling of about 1lb. Shortly after I had another - this was a bit smaller, about 3/4lb approx. However, the weed became a real problem as the rising tide lifted the rafts of the stuff along the beach. I lost four sets of gear on the trot. No option but to pack things in. A pity as I reckon the fish were just on the feed.

I have pictures but as I took them on the phone I can only save them as bitmap images, which are too big to post. Any ideas on how to convert these to jpegs or similar?

Open the file, click "save as" and under save as file type select Jpeg. Failing that, right click on the file, click rename and rename it with .jpg instead of .bmp

Incidentally, you are indeed a brave man for hitting Ballyb in those conditions. You did well to get a fish or two out of it, fair play.

remind me please if you will which beach is ballybranigan. im originally from that neck of the woods (midleton) but havent fished many of the beachs there in a long long time, but i am determined to make an appearance on a few of them this spring.

Next big sandy beach up the coast from Inch.

thanks phil,
thats where i thought it was. never really liked it. i read an old report of your about inch strand and am putting some serrious thought into fishing it very soon. just wondering which side is better, the left or the right with the stream, thats of course providing the surfers give you a choice

To the left near the rocks I find tbh. I prefer to fish it at night for an hour down and 3 up.

Thanks for the info Pete. I couldn't use 'save as' nor would using 'rename' do the trick. However, when I did right click I fiddled around a bit and used 'edit'. This opened the photo in Ms paint and I was able to save this as a jpeg.

Incidentally, I have fished Ballybrannigan for years now almost on a weekly basis. I have fished the beach in these conditions before but if you are careful and fish in the right spot (one where you have an escape route if things get too bad) the fishing can be excellent. I also fish Inch quite a bit and in exactly the same spot as you describe. However, I find the 2cnd & 3rd hour of the ebb to be my favourite.
