new tripod

I am thinking of investing in a new tripod i have an ian golds 5 foot but with the legs all tubular it is a bit wimpy in foul weather and i would like something which can get my rod tips a bit higher without losing stability
any advice ? or tips thanks in advance

Does anyone know if the telescopic tripods are worth getting?

i have a comoran one...a big sturdy telescopic one... nothing will buckle these legs..only thing it is bulky (not if u take down the telescopics and put it back into its carrier bag)..im just 2 lazy after every session..ian golds seems the way 2 go

Ian Golds 7' super match and stay away from the copies there not as good even if they do look the same

I have the ian gold telescopic and their better for uneven surface like rocks and is lighter for going distances. It also stores easier in the car when I'm going in the car with the family and I don't have alot of space. The bolt holding the cups has rusted on mine but the Ian golds match I have has a plastic mechanism. I don't know if this has also been updated on the telescopic also. As said the match is way more sturdy.

I would check that screw and see if it wasnt just muck around it, I know for a fact that all Goldsy's screws are stainless steel.

Sometimes blood and worm can look like rust.

You can check to see if there is any updates on the site....click on Tripods, then click on "see accessories for this item" all the parts are there and it tells you what they will fit.

Want to get one of these super match tripods but how do I know which size one to get,the 4ft,5ft,6ft or 7ft

Richie,

The 6ft is the most popular, followed by the 7ft I personally use the 6ft, far easier to get into the car. the bottom cups slide up or down, so if you really needed extra height in a big surf then you can always slide the cups up a few more inches.

Weirdfish, your right on the button regarding the fake stands...Goldsy has even had stands returned to him by anglers and found out they weren't his in the first place.

Remember every Ian Golds stand has a sticker on it....if it don't say Ian Golds then it isn't!!!!

I was thinking of getting a new tripod myself the one i have isnt the best, was looking at one in a tackle shop in cork city its 50e and it looks the job has the two rod rests and holders. Theres wasnt a make on it as far as i could see is it a cheap copy or a good rod stand???

If it hasn't got a name on it then its not an Ian Golds rod rest.

I would warn anyone about the other rests, most will be made in the far east and should you have a problem, you may find it hard to get any spare parts.
All Ian Golds stands are made in the UK, the main wholesaler in Ireland will have spares should replacements be needed they will be there in days.

Hi James, I don't know about the other tripod but there is an Ian Golds available in Cork as well for E15 more, be aware that the have no accessories in stock so you may wish to pre-order or source elsewhere things like a leg-lock kit.
