looks more like a flounder, seems a bit light for a plaice.maby i'm wrong??

thats what i was thinking aswell maybe im wrong bigger orange spots on plaice? flounder have orange spots aswell but not as many

I was with Barry when he caught this and my understanding of this is that the spots are not a good indicator of species but that a place is smooth when rubbed up the lateral line and a flounder is not. This fish and a few others that we caught were as they say, as smooth as a baby's a**e

The lateral line looks a bit rough for a plaice ,looks more like a flounder to me .

as coaster said the smooth lateral line is the way i have been showing how to tell them as flounder can at times have spots.i have seen plaice up in the aquarium in dingle that had no spots at all,im not an expert on it but from what i have been told over the years and read on this site(when looked up flounder) the smooth lateral line is the best way to tell them apart.

Plaice spots would be stronger. I've often caught flounder with that kind of colouration.

As an impartial observer maybe I can clear up the plaice V flounder.
While flounders can have red spots they will generally be less vivid than on a plaice. This in itself would not be enough. The more pronounced lateral line on the flounder is usually a dead giveaway.
The attached pics give a comparison. On evidence submitted, the fish is a flounder, back to the beach Barry :)
