Anyboby know of any good alternatives to staring at the rod tip during beach fishing trips?

A lot of continental and pier fishermen clip small bells on the end of the rod tip. I have some which are a very small clip with small springs attached and bells attached to the end of the springs. They annoy the hell out of m.b3 which is why I clip them on every session!! The clip is strong enough to withstand a pendulum cast.

If you're using a multiplier, lossen the drag right off and put on the ratchet. If the fish is big enough, you will hear it!!

Yes I saw those bells before but did'nt think they would be great.Are they any good IDpearl , do they not just jingle continously wheter you have a bite or not?

They might give a little tinckle if it's windy or if there are small bites. A good bight will rock the tip and give a god indication. Flatties will jiggle it. Wrasse will tug, tug, tug. It's all good fun.

http://www.askari-fishing.co.uk/ has a few in the bite indicators section. They've got some cheap other bits also.
