I take back everything good I ever said about them..... 3 Longbeams hit the beach at the SAI comp, mine, Colins and Albys. 2 of them are now Short beams. I took mine back to the tackle shop, those with internet purchased rods will not find it so easy. I am going to try and find a contact for Daiwa and take things a step further. The rod is rated for 8 oz, I was casting 6 without swinging a lead in a straight forward overhead style when it parted at the bottom spigot, splitting the reinforcing aluminum ring in the process too. Alby had something similar happen to him. Disgraceful.

I witnessed Pete's sorry incident. The cast was absolutely normal until the spigot went. The rod should have been able to withstand much more than that.

I'd be interested to hear what Daiwa say about this. I was about to shell out a few hundered yoyos on a TDXS. I'm going to see what happens about this episode before I part with my cash.

funny that my 2week old daiwa reel is in the bin...complete burnout!!! and without heavy abuse!! mayb its the merge/takeover by comoran thats slippin the quality?!?! i dunno

I left that set up while I tackled up my latest acquisition, the new 16' Daiwa Longbeam. Fitted an Emcast loaded with 30lb Power Pro, loaded another single hook clip down with peeler and let fly......wow.... With a minimum of fuss, 7ozs of lead and a full peeler went hammering out with a simple overhead thump. Await the review in a week or two.

I got that from one of your reports, Pete. If you were thumping out that weight without much fuss Why do you think it gave up the ghost now :? I am just curious to know.

I was about to shell out a few hundred yoyos on a TDXS. I'm going to see what happens about this episode before I part with my cash.

Trust me teacher, the tdxs is a quality piece of kit and i doubt whether you would have any problems. After all, it is pretty much the most top end bit of kit they manufacture(aside from the tournament x). I would fully recommend the 129. Pure class 8) .

If I knew that Midget I'd be a rod builder not a retailer. No idea. I certainly put the power on into the cast alright but no more or less than I usually would when leathering a bait out. I dont have a habit of breaking rods, not even with low end stuff when I started out. Its fairly clear, after 2 breaking in similar circumstances at the same point after having worked perfectly on a couple of occasions previously, that there is a major design fault with this rod. As to what this is, Ill leave it to Daiwa to find out and explain themselves.

Maybe it was that lesson I had at a UCC meet...... :D

Long/Short Beam removed from holdall, 13' Greys Orion & TDSS back in the game. Penn 525mags back in beta box, carp reels removed to cupboard,
