pendulum casting
was out practicing my casting today and was just interested in what length drop people recomend for pendulum and off the ground casting..
also is it best to evenly spread your shock leader across the spool or to keep it in the centre to balance the reel.

Not that I'm an expert but what every suits. Start at around 7 foot and work downwards. A couple of inchs can make all the difference (ohh err missus). I use a point where the writing is on my sidewinder, a change of colour on my villian and I'm still working on my anyfish anywhere. In all cases it well past my first ring but I'll shorten it if wading or there uneven ground.

was told once by some one.. the drop in the line should be the same as the height of the person casting plus 1foot...
dunno if that makes sense... but it sounds reasonable :)

pendulum casting
a standard length for pendulum casting would be 8ft, when you find
the correct length for youreself, put a bit of masking tape around the
blank of the rod, you will have the exact measure every cast.
all the best.

While we are on about pendulum casting -
Is there any websites with a good video on how to perform the cast??
Have seen the usual ones on youtube with some of the NJ casting guys but you cant see any of the rod/sinker action on them
Would like to see if I could pick this up (properly)
John.

Hey Derek,
Thats the business man - he does explain it well
Basis of his video is it seems to be that you must learn the moves without the rod first
Then move onto trying it with the rod :?
Site also shows a good overhead cast too
Now onto trying this out - have been prancing around my living room with past 15 minutes (look like an elephant doing ballet  )
Need to find a few free acres of grass to ensure I dont kill anything
Thanks again guys
John.

Just realised that I may have hijacked Lumpys thread.
My apologies to you
If it helps any - the guys in the links suggest that your drop should come down to where your reel is on the rod
Would also keep the knot to one side of the reel and lay the leader evenly accross the spool (advised to do so by an old sea dog :) - Thanks Martin)
