When do we start targeting conger again?

#1 Post by Norfolk and Goode »

Just wondering when is the best time to start targeting the conger? My wee lads doing my head in to get out and catch a few? but I'm not 100% sure when is the best month to start trying.

Any word on the Ballycastle breakwater yet? Have anglers been given right of way to fish it yet? Some cracking big eels in the harbour there! 8) Fairly easy to catch but dam hard to get out.

Ronald, when's the best time to take a charge down your direction for them?

Steve

the species list is only a general guide though.. conger can be caught year round as long as you have a deep/rocky mark you'll get them

As Mr.Crow says they are available pretty much all year round, getting the weather settled enough to get onto the rocky marks is the biggest problem.
Sea Species(25) bass, codling, whiting, turbot, seatrout, stingray, pollock, coalfish, longspine scorpion, ballan wrasse, dogfish, ling, pouting, poor cod, dab, mackerel, smelt, sandeel, launce, bull huss, painted ray, thick lip mullet, golden grey mullet, rock goby.
Fresh Water (2) brown trout, sea trout

I agree you can get them all year round slack water low tide is best that s when they are most active but you can still get them in any tide any state summer and autumn is when they feed the hardest.

It would normally be april may before they start making any sort of apperance at bangor ,though you should pick up the odd one at the minute but they'll prob be small .
