Casting?

Just wondering what people think is the best casting technique to use with a fixed spool reel or does it make a difference what reel you use? I've never really been into casting myself and haven't had any problems catching fish but it would be nice to have the option if things are slow in close!

i mostly use a pendulum action..ive no bother gettin big distance with that...

Overheadthump works well for fixed spool as long as you keep the cast smooth.Failing that, move to Cork(apparently all the fish are just 50 yards out :lol: :lol: )....
Don't forget this is advice from someone who can't cast more then 50 yards. :oops: :oops:

I think its down to the individual as to what style they adopt, being what ever works for them, but with regards to reel pref i think that with the way fixed spools have come on these days there is not too much of a diff..

I think i'll just have to make time to practise my casting when i come back, and try a few things and see what works! But to be honest i'm not too concerned that i wont reach the fish..as a few lads have said most can be found close enough in but its good to have the option :)

IMHO a reel is a device that just holds line, releases line and retrieves line...

its the rod that does all the casting.. the only way a reel will impact a cast is if it has a narrow and deep spool which is half full.. but with reel technology these days alot of reels are now long and shallow which help release the line faster..

i remember reading a review years ago about a fixed spool reel used on two different rods just to show that the reel was a good all rounder but also showed that it made little difference to casting and was down to the rod that was used and the person casting it...

just as long as it isnt over filled or under filled you shouldn't have any problems with your cast...

al you have seen the fish aint out to far i never cast out when we go out only when messing or practising a few cast personally i dont cast far when out

Yeah thats true Dennis, but i was just saying it would be nice to have the option of fishing in close or far out if ya wanted :)

Cheers but dont put yourself out, as you said most fishing is done close in so it's not really that urgent :)

a bit late on this but a friend of mine is the worse caster I know (you always have to fish to the left of him) and always catches more than me :cry:

Haha :) I'm not that bad that i'm a health hazzard, but maybe you should get some tips from your friend ;) :)
