Duration: 12 - 6pm

Tide: high round 2.30pm

Weather: light wind, cloudy - two periods of mist - not too bad at all really

Bait: fresh lug, herring and frozen sandeel and mussell

Rigs: 2 and 3 hook flappers, pulleys and single hook pats

Results: nothing

Catch and Release:: No



Report: got there thinking with five rods something would be doing - no - not a nibble - everthing untouched

few bright spells made the senery nice - but i felt this one a blank after an hour

the beach seems awful shallow - was on the right of the river - thats where the old western fisheries board booklet said to target

looked like a nasty fire on inis oirr - that was about the most exciting thing - the 2 heads will be hard to get out fishing again, after todays exploits



this blanking is contagious!

mind you can see how the bass would knock around in the surf on this beach

I am told it can suffer in winter, and that the rocks at the southern end are worth a go if the beach is proving quiet... mainly an autumn venue...

I never had much luck at Fanore any time of year but im sure it produces now and again id say its a night summer autumn venue......

I've had little luck in fanore over the years at any time but have heard enough reports regular about decent bass and the memory of some decent sized plaice in the early 80's to keep me going back there for the odd session when Liscannor bay has been trawled.

Actually I think I might have had enough of Fanore now, better marks near by me thinks.

Have caught, from Fanore strand and adjacent reefs, over the past few years :-

Bass
Thornback
Weaver
Dab
Turbot
Plaice
Pollack
LSD

Apart from these, have also seen caught by others :- Sea Trout, Wrasse and a sunfish.

It is my experience that this is an autumn / winter venue best fished in calmer conditions soon after storms.

interesting , had never heard of turbot off fanore, have you had them recently..like the last 2 years ? . I've had a lot of doggies and the odd weaver though.

i've often caught flatties (turbot plaice and flounder) there... usually late summer autumn

Turbot - catch a few each winter. Never larger than the size of my hand. Same applies to those caught from boat out in the bay.
Always caught them with lug. Perhaps the larger ones like a larger bait? Sandeels?

i find fresh squid to be a good bait there for turbot.. they are small enough.. but you will get the odd one over the pound mark.. most flounder and plaice ive caught there are all round the 1-2 lbs mark

Thats a good average for the flatties, Wonder what the chances of getting more sunfish off the beach are??? I'd say Low!
