Cheaper than buying double crimps if you loose a few traces i use 250 and find it harder to tie a knot at the hook but me and mates have started not to use crimps. that knot looks tight :lol:

you can use 4 turns as well but it starts looking a bit messy .its a good knot for hooks in general as it leaves a tag end to stop bait sliding back down the hook .
use the same knot for the swivel end as well .

Good job mine where a bit messy with the heavy er mono :roll: but dead on with the thiner stuff :lol:

ah Ronald that's the knot i am using. it's how i am tightening it up. do you have a name for it?

I use 3/0 to 5/0 kamasan aberdeens or oshaunesey(spelling?) and 50 lb shock leader use wire line (about a foot) if you feel it is necessary.

Thats the knot I use. :shock: As far as I'm aware it's called the figure of 8 knot? :wink: Put the line through the eye of the hook and then wrap it twice over your finger and line then pull your finger away. The loop that's now created you put the line through and pull it up tight. Cracking knot that won't slip, it just get's tighter when put under real pressure. I also leave a tag end slightly longer than Ronald. That allows me to just touch it with a flame to creat a blob at the end just for extra security although you don't really need to. 8)

I've had congers off the shore to 40lb and the knot has stayed true and never let me down. Just make sure you use quality swivels etc as a conger can put a real strain on the tackle your using.

anyone else tried kevlar for conger, its soft and knots well and is pretty indestructable. have used it to land catfish to over 11 stone in spain along with whole trees, and even a bed frame.

have had conger to over 20lbs on it, not cheap but it lasts. other than that i use heavy mono 100-150lbs, crimped at first but have moved to loop knotitng like ron showed above (good job by the way)

knotless knot works well too once the eye is big enough

Kevlar would be a bit on the expensive side for the back of bangor pier :lol: you loose about 5 traces a night so the cheaper the better .
As for the photos ,its tricky holding the camera in one hand and trying to hold knot in place ,good job i was bored last night .

when i was on holiday last year i went with a guide to try and catch 400lb sharks from the shore! Interestingly he used that knot to attached 150lb wire to hooks. He laughed at the idea of crimps. I tried it a couple of times when i got home, but it left my wire horribly kinked when i pulled it tight. Maybe he was using better wire?
