I'd avoid anything with a level wind if you're going to use it on sandy beaches. Granted, my only experience with a level wind was about 15 years ago, but it always seems to be the part that goes wrong first. Keeping the sand out is a pain.

Hi Nialler
What sort of ground do you fish? Cean/mixed or rough??
The one piece of advice i will give you right now is to buy the best you can afford, it is possible to get away with cheap fixed-spools but that is not the case with multipliers.

Even a bad days fishing is better than working.

i would recommend a 525 mag or a 525 xtra mag these reels can be used on the beach and rocks and have the power to reel in conger eels and they can cast a good 150 yards in the right hands and are built to last

tho if its mostly beach fishing you do i would recommend an abu 6500 c3 ct mag elite

i have both of them have a look on my blog for more info

if you are learning with a mutiplier the easiest to start with is an abu mag it is simple to adust and a novice will not chuck it in a draw due to birdsnestitis never to see the light of day again .GET HELP from somebody with xperiance if possible watching someone casting and explaining what they are doing will save hours of frustration . I use braid on a abu sports mag and penn 525 but wouldnt recommend it unless you are an expert and do a job that doesnt require all your fingers .most important KEEP IT SMOOTH
