young rods learning group? need ideas?

right before i suggest anything do you think there will be any interest in this? i am willing to offer my time to help some of the young rods to catch a few more fish! for example...

rig clinic

bait digging?

on the beach! fishing session...

any thoughts?

it's just something i could have done with myself when i was young and keen!

Will there be an age limit on this? There are probably a few not so young rods on the forum like myself who could do with some help. :roll:

Organise some meets Big Mac, thats the way to go with that. What Mark is proposing is similar to what we spent a large proportion of the night(and quite a few pints) discussing after the final SAI comp last year. Its like a "Teach your kids to fish" day. Mark, any way I can give you a dig out let me know, ill be glad to help. Provide tackle etc....

etc
Open to all comers young and old?
Maybe run on simultaneous days in the four provinces announced on the forums well in advance?
Hate to have to bring it up but would insurance be an issue at something like this if a kid was to stick a hook in their hand or do their back in?

I remember that conversation Pete. I think we were looking at trying to get some more people into fishing and such. Might be a good idea for young and not so young rods. If we were to do an open day with some form of bait sponsorship. Parents could bring their kids and both could be thought.

Just an idea.

something along some of these lines will be present at the angling ireland exhibition at the kings hall on the last weekend of this month

a couple of us up here are in the process of pulling things like this together for juniors in a few of the clubs, with many clubs already having it running, funding is available for such things from local councils etc if you do it right.

my club CBRSAC does a rig tying and fish id session during meeting and after them which i take the juniors for myself

I am organising a teach-in later this year for junior anglers ( date not decided yet ). We ran one a couple of years ago in the Howth club house which was a great success. There was a couple of presentations on different types of venues and the likely seasons, then a practical bait session showing how to store and present all the common baits, followed by a sit down session with six of the top match anglers opening their tackle boxes and showing the groups how to tie traces, spool line etc. We had a couple of the casters helping on Claremount also. Contact me for more info. if you need it. If you are concerned about insurance, I feel certain this can be covered by orgainising through the IFSA.

Mark,

We have a junior league for under 16 and under 21.

If your members are interested in fishing them let me know.

Once you organize it on a club basis you should not have any problems.

You would want to obtain parental consent for any outings etc.

We are going to organize a teach in for young anglers in the near future

And if you juniors are interested, let me know.

To cover yourself insurance wise, Juniors need to be registered with the Ifsa.

This scheme covers all disiplins of the sport, pike, fly, boat fishing ect. THe next sea one is in Kerry I'm not sure of the date or venue.
