do it yourself. it's pretty easy. pick up a new ring in the shop (check the diameter to make sure) then carefully strip the whipping off the damaged eye with a sharp knife, take your time, the whipping will unwrap easy enough. remove all the thread, now get a lighter and hold under the damaged ring to melt the adhesive binding the ring to the rod, after a few seconds the ring should slide off easy enough. remove any old adhesive with some fine sand paper.
now the new ring, adda few drops of glue (just any decent shop bought glue) i can't think of any names off the top of my head but a good general purpose one will be fine. nothin special. hold the ring in place and make sure the ring is aligned with all the other rings!!!! that will get you through one session no problem. you can try whipping on some new thread if you like, it's not that hard. and add a drop of glue over the whipping to hold it firm.
i can't get over that none of your tackle shop will do it, it only takes 10 minutes if you nkow what you're doing. it's really easy though.
Good luck
Patrick

Croppy......BIG WARNING!!!! if you do decide to do the job yourself...like has been said...place a flame under the tip to soften the glue...BUT!! as you pull the tip off....DO NOT SCREW the tip right and left....pull it off in a straight line to the blank tip.
The reason for this is.....your at the thinest part of the rod blank...the heat can also effect the resin in the blank and if you twist it the fibres in the tip can end up like a paint brush....this would mean cutting the blank back....after saying that....dont be afraid to go for it and do it yourself...like others have said...its not rocket science.
Hope this helps you.. :)
