Float Suits

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

Yeah, i was looking at these last week and think i may have to get 1 for next year, i want to get the rest of this winter out of my current suit before i part with more money. The suits have have dropped well in price this last few months and do make them more affordable to lots more people.

seems like really good value - just wondering how does the water not get up through the suit when its a two piece?

The water is supposed to get into the suits, same principal as a wetsuit, water gets in, gets warmed but doesn't get back out, offering another layer of insulation inside the suit, at least that's my understanding of it.

the only suits that are certified for commercial use are one peice ie they dont allow water to escape at the waist therefore allowing less heat loss this is why most suits are called flotation suits not survival suits ie as worn by oil rig workers ect worth thinking about if you think you may end up relying on it to save your life !!

Hi Roger,

this is true of the 1 piece suits but the drawback with using them for angling is that if you have to walk any distance with a 1 piece suit on while carrying your gear - you are likely to die of a heart attack because of the heat and sweat generated.....

The two piece is also generally a better fit as it doesn't have to be the right length for the whole body. Another advantage is being able to remove the jacket now and again to dry the t-shirt off. :P

[quote="EoinMag"]I find the two piece float suit gen a lot warmer than a 1 piece and of all the float suits ive had i reckon fladen is 1 of the best :)

Think we are coming into the warmer weather now. I was wearing my float suit last night for the simple fact that all my bits and bobs are in the pockets and i couldnt be bothered changing over,
but i was roasting in it, lol
