Culdaff beach,Co Donegal

#1 Post by jonboy »

People:myself and one other

Duration:7.30pm-12.30am

Tide:in and back out .

Weather:stiff south westerly,rain,hail and sleet

Bait:mackerel,sandeels,lug,squid

Rigs:3 hook flapper and running ledger size2 hooks

Results:13 coalfish,5 flounder 3 dabs 1 turbot

Catch and Release:: Yes/No yes

Report:Fished Culdaff again as it is well sheltered from a sw wind,there was a nice bit of surf coming so i knew the coalies would be there in good numbers ,all the coalies were caught at high tide mostly on strips of squid.(The best of them about 2 lbs) the bites dropped off as the tide fell back for about an hour or so with the occasional bite from a few very small coalies. we were going to pack up when the hail and sleet started but I am glad we stuck it out as the flatties started to bite when the tide was at its lowest point,I caught a small turbot (about 1 pound) on mackerel on the running ledger so i set up both rods with this rig.My mate next caught a dab and flounder on his 3 hook flapper on mackerel baits.the next bite resulted in my best ever dab at 1lb 2 ozs :D .we both had flounder and dabs afterwards (1/4 to1/2 lbs or so for the dabs and the flounder were averaging1/2 to 3/4 lbs.
All in all a nice wee session.
