Garryvoe Beach, East Cork, Cloyne 10 year anniversary open

#1 Post by petekd »

People:43 of us

Duration:3 to 7

Tide:Filling

Weather:Sunny, windy, rainy, cold

Bait:All sorts, Maddies, white rag, lug, crab, mack, razor, mussels

Rigs:All sorts

Results:Coalies, Codling, Flounder

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:

Poor fishing, 29 fish between 43 anglers. Competition won by Peter McGrory (Pete) with 6 fish. Myself, I finished with one fish, a coalie of 33cm that was pipped to the prizes by 2cm.... Next time. Tough days fishing with the majority of the fish coming from the very low peg numbers, the higher up the beach, the poorer it was. Well done and well won by Pete McG who must have fished his ass off to pull out 6 fish today.

Off to a bad start myself as hurt my back yesterday (digging lug... ) and any form of bending and stretching was very painful. Also hit a snag and had to break out 3 times which did nothing for the mood either  . That and having to wait until it got dark to take a leak too..... Glad to get a fish on the board all the same but I know myself I didnt really fish well, I was caught between fishing a big bait at range or scratching about with small baits close in and dithered for far too long chopping and changing about. Ho Hum...next....

Well done again Pete, and well done to Cork Angling who put up some nice prizes too.

Not a great week Pete. Thanks for the pointers on Thursday though, very much appreciated.

Hi Donagh, The comp was pegged from the lhs directly in front of the hotel to well beyond the pipe. Aside from Coalies, it didnt fish at all, there were only a small number of codling caught.

It's about time davis had to part with a €5 note. It was probably the same one he took off me at Tramore.

Kev, I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you I have 2 of your fivers from our 2 forays at Tramore...... :D Yorkshire blood in me remember, short arms and deep pockets....dont like parting with them

I was going to be nice and not mention Petes sabotage efforts, it was his turn to buy the bait, which he duly did. However, it wasnt until we were at Garryvoe that it was discovered that said bag of bait was still on the shop counter...

Bait Gimp!!!!   :D

Right, thats it.... When we hit Garretstown in a nice fresh wind accompanied by lashing rain I shall proceed to fish out of the back of the jeep whilst frying bacon sandwiches, with the heat on.... You on the other hand will be running around trying to find suitable stones to keep the Seat from blowing away.
