Duration: 05.00 to 09.00

Tide: High at 10.16

Weather: Brass monkeys and sleet

Bait: Mack and squid

Rigs: size 4 hard on the bottom

Results: 6 whiting and 2 codling to 1/2 lb

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report: Thought I would give the Dee a crack this morning on a rising tide. First cast straight into a small whiting.

Spent the next hour switching between my fav spots before things started to heat up again. Two whiting came in quick sucession then a small codling appeared (taken on the squid). I rebaited up both rods with just squid and about 30 mins later another codling to 1/2lb.

Another quiet spell (apart from my teeth chattering) and the rest of the whiting where landed. Left at 9am to go home to get a hot shower to stop myself shivering. God it was cold.

buy some long johns they work wonders in cold weather, trust me

Would've needed something else. The jeans and waterproof trousers just didn't hack it. I was thinking of buying a floatation suit. Do these keep in the heat?

yes they do, used mine for the first time few weeks back, and on a cold wet night I was very warm and comfortable

I was out in Killiney all night last saturday, wore me IMAX suit, a balaclava,thermal undies, neoprene gloves and most importantly under the wellies a pair of neoprene socks. At about 4 in the morning it gets very cold, I had no problem at all with no beach buddy staying out all night and didn't get cold at all.
The Floatation suit makes a huge difference definitely.

neoprene chest waiders believe me they keep you warm i use mine when fishing every were in the winter rocks and all

Personally I'd find the chest waders a bit too cumbersome on the rocks, they are warm but I need a bit of mobility when rockhopping that I don't think I have when wearing the chesties.
But neoprene is really good that's for sure.

Are Chesties not a Danger on rocks? IMO you can't beat the oul Floatation Suit for battling the elements
