right lads new to using braid, so I have a few questions

1) do you use a mono leader?
2) mono backing line, if so do you tape over it?
3) best knots for mono to braid?

thanks in advance for all your help

Braid

#2 Post by JimC »

MC,
Braid is yer only man!

No need for a leader, never use one myself, make sure that your rod is light/flexible enough and your drag is set.

I load my reels with 300m at a time. Sometimes I use only tape as a backing (on a Penn 525 say). If you are using 300m then no need to tape over the backing. Up to yourself really.

To be honest I couldn't tell you what knot is best as I don't join the two other than with a swivel in between! Some of the shore lads will tell you what they use for leaders etc. Best and simplest knot for attaching swivels to braid would be the palomar.

Once you try braid you'll never go back!!! You'll feel a conger breathing on the bait at 300 feet

MC,

For shore I would recomment using a leader. I'll send you the knots to go with it tmrw.

Why? The rods and reels are just as good as ever. Just unload the mono and spool up with braid........... :!:
