Hard to tell but

Poor Cod-The anus is set further back towards the first anal fin, rather than being set beneath the centre of the first dorsal fin, as seen in the pouting. The pelvic fin of the Poor Cod only reaches the anal vent, whilst that of the Pouting, reaches further back over the first anal fin.
Breeding:

Would indicate it is a pout, no?

The best way to spot the differance between the to is as follows.
The first anal fin on the pouting begins well under the first dorsal fin
The first anal fin on the poor cod begins about level with the end of the first dorsal fin.

The didderance beetween both species is a follows
Pouting: the first anal begins under the middle of the first dorsal fin
Poor cod: the first anal fin begins about level with the end of the first dorsal fin.
This is from the Central Fisheries Board id book.
Download at http://www.cfb.ie this book is a must for any sea angler
If you intend to print it off it has 34 pages in so make sure your printer is full.
Have a look at dave and barry's pics they both shuw the differance.

Look at the photos below, line is where anal fin starts.
Compare to postion of both dorsal and pelvic fins.

Has to be a pouting by my reckoning.

I think ronald is talking about the smaller fish which i also think looks like a poorcod. The bigger fish at the top of the photo is def a pouting.
Another useful way to ID them are as follows:
Pouting-body depth greater than head length.
Poorcod-body depth less than head length.

This is going to be an interesting comp

Is it just me or did no-one else notice the date on the pics??

Not saying you're using old pics Barry - just maybe fix the date settings on the camera :!: :D
Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

You mean the bottom one in Barry's pic? Looking at it again you are right, I only looked at the top fish. So Barry has a poor cod and a Pout in that pic!
