Arrived in Fountainstown in the hope that the recent (Constant..) winds would have stirred things up considerably. Was surprised on arrival that there was little enough in the way of movement but decided to give it a lash anyway. Not a whole pile of note to report other than the whole place was carpeted in dogfish. The rods never stopped nodding, Brian even managed a double on the one hook! Some of them were also as small as I've seen, not much over the 30cm. It didnt seem to matter what was put in front of them, they werent picky. Must try this spot in the day light and see if we can pick up a couple as there's a rambler coming up in a week or two with Crosshaven and pickings are fairly slim at the moment..... Big onion bag full of crushed mack buried on the beach might do the trick....

Fished there again last night for just over an hour until a dose of the winter vomiting bug forced me home..... Had 2 cod to 2.5lb and a doggie.

Its a popular enough spot Lumpy, no need for a PM, directly in front of the carpark. Needs a good blow (not that thats a problem down here at the moment....) to switch the fishing on. Majority of fish coming at range to large razor and black lug baits.

Yeah, fished there a few times in the winter a couple of years back and bagged loads of doggies and whiting (basically one a cast) the odd codling coalie and pollack and a strap conger. Large number of fish for a bag, but not too good on species and it never fished so well during the day, but did pick up a few doggies. I've heard chance of bass off the rocks and sea trout in the river, never tried, but have had both round the corner in Myrtelville off the beach and rocks (although not in winter).

Interesting you mention Myrtleville, I was only discussing it with another forum member the other day. Keep meaning to have a crack off the beach itself but never got round to it, the rocky areas all look great for a bit of spinning/plugging. Would it be worth a lash on the sand do ya reckon? Its only a stones throw from me in Ballygarvan so you would think I'd try it..... Fished near there during the summer and was getting driven stone mad by a huge Sea trout that kept hopping out in front of me!

PeteKD - Myrteville is OK. Always had something there, usually doggies when bait casting and pollack and mackerel in the summer. Never tried Lug down there, but caught a 9lb bass there on sandeel 2 years ago, very close in off the sand. People plug down there a lot on the rocks off Fennels bay when the tide is coming up with some success so I'm led to believe. Caught gurnard,garfish, pollack, bass, coalfish, whiting, codling and horse mackerel off there at various times, but maybe that's because I fished it a lot as its handy from Carrigaline for a quick fish. Mostly doggies though. I tend to fish it less now and more often spinning in the evening in the summer for an hour or two. Often see mullet cruising past the rocks and when in snorkelling, but never tried for them. Had one sea trout off there as well and have been plauged by them jumping around on occassion as well. Never caught one I've seen jumping around anywhere, but it always gives you hope!
