What can we do....

I was recently informed at work that some of the new arrivals to our shore(I'm not going into bashing foreigners) ...guys i have to work with are turning up to work with bags of bass(some as small as 1lb and others 6-7lb) and handing them out to their friends...it was only when one off the new guys (who in fairness wouldn't take the fish as he understands the need for C&R) told some of the anglers in the factory, who as you can imagine are totally ****** off :evil: .But i've spoken to one of these guys who knew exactly what he was doing(the first words out of his mouth was "i have a license" :? :? :? ) they are also making sure that none of the local guys are privy to what they are up to .The way things are going two things are going to happen 1.We are going to lose large areas of fishing grounds to this pressure 2.the bad feeling to these anglers(term i use loosely :evil: )is going to spill over.Now i know that people are going to say it's all about educating these people about conservation but when we can't get them to insure there cars or respect property(another story on the local radio station this morning :shock: )..My question is what can any of us do if we can't get the authorities to do anything :?: :?: :?: :?: Sorry about this long winded rant :oops: but we can all get to wrapped up in this political correctness and not say anything and turn a blind eye to these people(i refer to these scavengers and not where they come from)...i'm not against people taking fish home but not mass slaughter of undersize fish.....Thanks for your time :)

Ring the fisheries board and rat them up, the number I have is 026 41221. While you're at it if your aware of any of these blow ins hammering around in uninsured cars, tip the Gardai off. These guys are guests in this country and should treat the place with more respect :evil:

Don't be sorry G. Wyse. This is a subject that has been raging in Coarse fishing all over the country and is now spilling onto sea fishing. As you said something need to be done. There seems to me to be a lot of illegal fishing for Bass all over the South and South West. I think it's time people of the area brought this to the attention of their local TD's. Let them know that their action on this will mean votes and let them know there are plenty of people out there looking for action.

i only got the info second hand,like i said they are very secretive about it(if any of the local lads even get wind of it again, there's going to be a whole world of shite hit them)...as for the cars we have customs in to the factory at least once every fortnight and they just change the cars :evil:

if you have a point to make about bass protection could you please mail a copy or visit http://www.irishbass.org. You may be aware of what we are trying to start and our objectives are very simple and not complex.

raise awareness of these and similar issues
create visibility of the illegal fishing
gather collate and provide information

thats all.
Our first meeting is in Dublin but this doesnt mean the next one couldnt be further south!

No problem Jim,excellent site :) ....some meetings should be held in the South due to the large numbers of Bass anglers as you well know.

I am not convinced that either the Gardai or local fisheries board react. I have seen illegal fishing a few times and reported it. Nothing happens!

never get involved, stay back and if you can take pictures and then turn them over to the proper authorities, well that is what I would do as if they cant see you they cant get revenge.
