Gerrys.. and p+p

Was on Gerrys and ordered a new rod and read all the info on postage. It said £6.50 so i bought the rod and went through all payment details and delivery etc and was given the total which stated £6.50 P+P to me in Belfast, I paid for the rod and then later received an e-mail from them saying they were gonna have to charge me £15.00 delivery instead, so i promptly cancelled the order. So my question is "what do you think of this tactic of putting the price up after purchase" And yes i know some firms charge more to NI, but this should be clear on their website and not say UK POSTAGE £6.50 when it is clearly not the case. Most other sites when you are on them state that the price for Ni is higher before you pay.. I am very angry with Gerrys.. And i did manage to get the rod with cheaper P+P from another site. This thing with carriers not classing NI as part of the UK is wrong and its up to the companies who deal with them to get it sorted (in this case Gerry's) I am surprised that Gerry's lost your order, perhaps the person who handled your order was new.....I know if you had asked to speak to Gerry himself you may have got a better outcome.

When ordering anything over the phone it always pays to get the name of the person who took your order, write it down with the time and date, just in case you need refer back later.

Even at this late date I would suggest you email for Gerry's attention a few words letting him know he lost your custom and that you informed everyone on SAI about it (as is your right too)

sounds dodgy. what would they have done if you had refused to pay the extra? you have a contract with them to supply these goods at the agreed price if they do not send it to you it is credit card fraud. if you wanted to be really tough about it you should contact the uks consumer association and report them.

as far as I know ( thats not that far) if you were quoted a price and paid it and that payment is accepted you should have got the item off them.

Its brilliant that you got the same product somewhere else for the same price. I was going to buy a rod rest off gerrys after christmas maybe i won't now :twisted:

so thats another £60 they have lost

all i say is lads that the uk milks the postage for northern ireland its checker to sent from ni to uk mainland then mainland to ni :x :x :x

for the sake of £8.50 who cares, its nothing...i know of lads that have spent 60-70 euro getting rods sent over, and it still works out cheaper than buying them over here.

TSR, Think you are missing my point, its not about a few quid, its about the way its done.. PS £8.50 is better in my pocket.

i have been singing the praise of southend angling for a while now on the forum. I have had loads of him and always next day.

I tried loads of online tackle shops and lots charge more and its way wrong but never have paid more than £8 postage from southend and that was for 2 rods.

anyone that buys of him say spanbear sent you cant do me any harm for future orders cheers lads.

He also sells loads of stock on ebay if he has to move stuff for space in shop and always cheap

I have to say that I use Gerrys alot and can't praise them highly enough.I know it is different for postage to the south but they always email me the cost before they accept my order.
If you ever have a problem contact Gerry as he is most helpful and always comes back with a solution.

I sold a beachcaster rod on ebay a few weeks ago to a buyer from Manchester, And the cheapest postage cost i could find was £19.25 and the parcel weighed no more than a few pounds.
Because it was over 5ft in length, Royal mail wouldn't touch it.

it really is a joke to be fair the postage costs that we all get hit with, this is why i always support my local tackle shops all year, and in turn, when u are looking for a rod or another expensive item of tackle, they remember you, and normally pass on discount or match mail order price on items.

have to say though, a few years back when i did buy from gerrys a good bit, i couldnt fault them at all.

I remember on the old Gerrys site that before the order was completed, you were notified that final shipping costs would be calculated and then they would contact you before processing. You had to give acceptance before your order was completed.
This is surely just something that needs to be brought to their attention and not a deliberate tactic. You'll probably be rewarded for your trouble too ;)
From my experience, Gerry himself goes out of his way to retain every customer (although he lost me to veals on price ;) )

Well pleased with Southend angling. My new rod arrived within a few days, and that was over the new year holidays too. Excellent
