Line colour!

Do u think it matters what colour of line is used, which do you prefere personally i go for diawa sensor monofill which is brown but i buy it because of the way it comes off the reel. Even shockleader colour do u think it matters. Well whats the views?

Always go for clear myself. Prob does'nt matter but have always preferred it for both mainline and shock. Use coloured lines only at night for cod.

i really doubt that the line colour as well as shock leader colour matters in the slightest..

as for rig/snood colour do a search in the forum for comments on that..

only time line colour might make a difference is when spinning/plugging..

only way line colour is useful is when night fishin...

what about flourescent line at night - handy for yourself to see but...the fish?

line colour does matter in gin clear seas for easily spooked fish
also at night certain species are said to be attracted to red snood line
some guys just use different coloured lines to help with tangles etc

I use clear, red and yellow main lines on different reels with either clear or flourescent shockleader and dont notice any difference, but for rig and snood its always clear line. I like to use 2 colours when out as it makes it easier if my lines cross, etc.

I used clear and black snoods last night and the only thing that seemed to matter was what bait was on them.

maxima chameleon, suffix tritanium, berkley gold trilene, amnesia, fluorocarbon....

usually clear. browns n blacks/ reds to avoid 'shine' on terminal rigs, sometimes makes difference. if usin flourescent lines as mainline it will spook fish. this matters if using slider or dropping close after retrieveing for further out- potentially spookin fish at your feet.

anyone that says line colour dosen't matter will catch plenty of fish most of the time but they will get caught out every once and a while :lol: !

Then what about the nets the trawlers use the fish r bound to sense these or see them or is it a case that there fecked no matter which way they go

m.b3 I agree, that is sometimes the reason why one person catches while the other does not, but do you think it matters in coloured water or at night.

had this bright green line once don't think I caught anything with it I go with clear or brown from now on

at night/ coloured water wouldnt say it matters too much. other factors probably become more important with fish relying less on sight? most fish are possibly more confident feeding at night anyway? maybe the little things don't matter as much then??

have tried coloured lines as attractors. personally found more often than not they put fish off. i tried coloured snoods in shallows in clear seas. the clear or fluoro rigs hammered fish whilst coloured snoods got very odd twitchy bite. black line can be surprisingly good in clear seas at times. red lines above wishbones have caught me plaice and flounder at times.

remember one time my mate outfished me....
floatfishing for pollack with rag baits. i had 2 feet 10lb line clear snood below the weight, his was 2 feet of 50lb grey grease weasel!! he had half a dozen fish to my 1?! depth fished, hook size, float, weight all the same! wierd!? we even swapped spots just to see!!!

Interesting, I am sure many guys on the site will have similiar experiences, I stick to clear or black for snoods and I mostly use clear for Shock and leader. For main I am using nite crystal at the moment

i tend to favour clear , but once heard that red is the first colour in the spectrum under water to break down and so become hardest to see

Yeah, i read something like that in national geograpic magazine (i think) a couple of years back. They had pictures doctored to show how it would be seen through a camera lens, lots of bright colours, and they showed how fish would see, red was first to disappear, although it did say that different colours disappeared at differing depths,

This might help somewhat, I was tying 2 hook flappers at home recently.
Made 1 rig up with all clear line, beads etc and another 1 tied in Red Amnesia with Red beads etc... Left both on the floor and started putting line on a reel or something, in unsocked feet I then got up to cross the room and guess which rig stuck a Bast**d hook in my foot, the clear rig, I didn't even see it! That's good enough for me!
