i'd even suggest getting the sl30sv. i have this and the origional and find it a superior reel. the handle is is better then the origional and there appears to be a smoother drag

I use the 20 for mixed/broken ground or when there is alot of weed on the beach. The 30 is just a nice size for the rough stuff, mine are both originals and have never let me down.
The HV models have basically the same line capacity but are a bit faster when casting, some people find the need to slow them a bit to make them controlable ( have seen a 30hv spin for a LLLOOONNNGGG time in free spool  )

I agree a slosh 30 is all you'll ever need for that type of fishing :!:Drew wrote:I've got a 30, Find Winding Power is Excellent, and more than enough Capacity to use 35lb Mono Straight through.

I have the SLOSH30 - original model.
I must agree with all the comments above, the winding power in these reels is very impressive.
I use mine for rough ground and conger fishing. I have it loaded with 30lb Berkley Fireline plus 60lb leader tied with a bimini twist - VERY VERY strong set up and even when trying to pull for a break, you will need to use a lot of strength.
The only drawback I find with the 30 is that if you have small hands, it can be difficult to cast, the 20 is easier to cast but you lose out on line capacity on the spool with the 20.
You can get them for around £60 - 70.

I have original SLOSH20,it doesn`t hold a lot of 30lb line but chances are if you are going to be fishing rough ground you wont need to cast over 100yards anyway.great reel and they have plenty of grunt to pull in big fish.congers etc :)

Is the reel new??
Not being smart but have you fitted the brake blocks? They are not fitted as standard
If you have then I would suggest thicker oil, some people will tell you to wind down on the spool end tension but I have seen too many reels with wrecked bearings or bent spindles caused by that.
The other thing to look at is the line - is it wound on level and what diameter is it?
