malahide estuary??

anyone fished here? what is the winter flounder potential (if any!) of this place? thank you.

Depends on where you're fishing it Mark.
Some spots you'll only get Mullet.

"Only get mullet" !!!! On reading "Hooked on Bass" Mike Ladle reckons that mullet are a supreme fighting fish. I've never caught one, but if they are around I must give them a lash. Are they only summer visitors or all year round?

you will catch them into Nov. but you may have missed the best of it. the weather hasn't been that good. the liffey can hold fish later than other areas. i pressume (but could be very wrong!) that the hotwater outflow at poolbeg lighthouse could hold a congregation of mullet around now.

Mullet? Oh yes, yes indeedy. I'm really really really looking forward to next year when I'll be back in Donegal for good. Targetting Mullet.

Crying shame that the Bass haven't reached Donegal in any great numbers yet. I reckon another 4 or five years might change that.

Sorry JK, didnt mean to sound flippant in saying that. Just that in some spots, its all you'll get. I know for a fact they're still there, passing by the spot on Sat morning and stopped to have a gander....one older chap fishing said they had been soming in all morning. Could even see a couple of tail slaps on the surface. If you want to know where JK, drop me a PM. Its a nice spot, V quiet and not easily found unless directed.

fished malahide last sunday on the beach just below the steps where the rocks start , fished for about 3 hours in the most amazing conditions a eastrly wind blowing straight in at me, surf as far out as the eye could see but there was no weed washing around in the surf. ideal conditions for a auld bass not a bit of it. however I got 2 flounders one about 10cm and the other 34cm, rag was the bait lobbed 20yds into the surf. you can fish high rock in the winter at high tide for whiting they are small but plentyfull mackerel strips and sandeel are best bait.
