People:myself and davy

Duration:6hrs

Tide:lw @14.30hrs

Weather:broken cloud light s wind

Bait:sandeel and jelly worms

Rigs:2or 3oz ball weightsto swivel then 3fott hook length

Results:14 pollock to 6lb

Catch and Release::

Report:Headed up the north coast today after some winter pollack at our usual place , as we arrived in ballycastle we could see conditions were perfect with very little swell running onto the shore .
The first half hour was quite enough with both of us trying different baits to see what the fish were feeding on ,the first fish fell to davy (fishing sandeel) at about 5lb and as he unhooked it it coughed up a whole herring at about 1/2lb ,so a quick scramble over the rocks and i stole a pack from his bait bag ,a few casts later and i was into a decent fish which dived into the kelp a few times but i got it in again toching the 5lb mark ,this kept up for another half hour or so before it all went quite .
Itook the lazy option and chucked out my sandeel and left it on the bottom in the hope of a doggie while i got some food ,nothing bothered it until i started to reel in after 10 mins and then wallop ,another good fish ,only this time it got well buried in the kelp ,after alot of puling and hauling ,giving slack line and then brute force and ignorance i got the fish free , this was estimated at 6lb+ and quickly released .
We made a move further along the rocks to another spot and managed to contact another few fish .Not a bad session with the average fish coming in around 3-4lb ,cant wait to get back up again hopefully over christmas .

nice pollack in the sea angler ron 10lb8oz well done mate i cant get a dobble when i am out in a boat ffs :lol:

We didn't hit any big fish yesterday ,normally one or other of us will hook and loose something that cant be stopped :lol:
I've started to use 55lb braid in the hope of hitting a biggie and getting it turned before it gets buried to deep in the kelp , hoping to get a 12lber to add to the specimen list ,if the one i have in sea angler had been a better condition it prob would have passed 12 lb easily :cry:

I've tried bait at this mark a few times and its came back in completely un-touched.

I've tried rag, squid, razor and mackrel from small bits up to flappers for conger. Had a take on a mackrel fillet when reeling in but never when static.

Alway have try though in the hope something big fancies a free meal lol

Also anyone run braid on a beach multi? I Fancy using it but im worried it will all end in an expensive mess with burnt thumbs lol.
Tempted to give a go with the magnets full might be safe

It wasn't bad pete but could have been better ,as for you guys wanting to try bait on the bottom ,bring a good supply of weights and plenty of pully rigs ,Ihad one wee huss of here last year and a few doggies near specimen weight .

there will be other times pete.it def could have been better,we usually get more fish than that but every time we`ve fished it we`ve managed to pull out a 6lb`r or two so i suppose i shouldn`t complain.at least there wasn`t any midges like last time,the fecking things drove me insane :x

All fish were returned to the water as quick as possible .
