Garryvoe Co. Cork Monday 11th

#1 Post by drseafish »

People:I had arranged this last week with a few mates from work.

Duration: 7-11pm

Tide: FT ~9.45pm

Weather: Slight on shore south westerly & dry

Bait: Lug, frozen black lug, mackeral, sandeel and razor

Rigs: lots

Results: 1 coddling 2.5lb, 2 coalfish ~1lb

Catch and Release:: Yes/No all kept (deep hooked coalies)

Report: Was delighted to here it was fishing well and my god it looked like half of the anglers in Cork were on the beach by the time I arrived at 8pm (the other lads had got there at 7pm). I think a competition may have been on as there was at least 12 guys fishing directly in front of the hotel. We fished from the right of the car park and there was even more guys to the right of us. Despite the weather warning from Met Eireann it was a good night with a decent surf but generally calm and dry (they got it wrong again!). Anyway Mark had the coddling on black lug in close just before 8pm and John had coalie not long after but nothing happened until I had the second coalie at 10.30pm. Have to say we were very dissapointed and it looked like not much was caught. Joe who arrived at 6.30pm noticed a couple of trawlers out in the bay who were gone by 8pm, so I guess they took the fish with them.

an update

#2 Post by drseafish »

Two of my buddies stayed late and managed a doggie, founder and coalie on the dropping tide. However having spoken to a couple of guys leaving they had some nice coddling on crab at distance, so it appears crab the only bait we didn't have was the bait on the night.

Hi

Sorry for the late reply, but I was away. Donal is right, although one coddling was caught on frozen black lug at only ~100 yards. I believe most of the people who got coddling on Monday night had fresh peelers. Love to know where they got them this time of year.
