New Rod??

ok lads here's a challenge for ya.. in the new year i'll be looking to get another rod between 13 and 14 foot..
my budget will be 200 euro(incl shipping)

as most of you know i'm currently using my daiwa moonraker supreme but i'm looking for something with a little more oomph..

something thats light in weight but yet strong enough to chuck 7-8oz lead 150 yrds.. and be able to detect flatties in the surf..

multiplier as well.. probably throw my abu 6500 on it..

i'm not a small lad either so nothing too light

i have my eye on a few.. but i want to see what the rest of you come up with.. all ideas welcome..

great rod very user friendly nice reel seat and comes with life time guarntee...plus ull have enough left for a few pints afterwords

i would like to add that 7-8oz from a greyflex is a no go will handle 6 as long as u aint belting it!!

.......when do you ever use a 7-8oz lead anyhow?

hi steve ive a diawa moonraker as well but to pair it up i bought an abu garcia esprit shes 12ft with casting weight from 4 to 8oz with abu's adjustable reel seat bloody good rod me thinks good bite detection and strong enough to handle the rough stuff plenty of power still think i cant get the best outa it when casting ive it paired up with a penn 525gs only let down is that reel seat when u really crank the rod and wind in there is a wee bit of play with it. got it at bargin price only paid 60 quid for me its a good allrounder can take it anywere

aye and its s**t dont like it the butts to big need massive hands to work with the reel on it only reason i bought it was got it for 20 notes at a car boot good bite detection buts its to soft cant let rip with it

u must b used to using thin rods then...........the moonraker ist bad on daimeter(from wat i rember from steves rod)

and unfortunatly i cant add anthing on a rod although i would reccomend tryin to get get a tdsx 129pm........savage rod

(second hand obviously)

no no this is the original moonraker... dating back to '76.. it aint soft.. still flings 5oz leads 180+yrds.. has nice full body action.. worth alot more now because the moonraker series has never beaten it..

ask fishinmidget about it.. he's seen it in action

but never mind that one, i'm looking to get something new

I have one of those myself Steve, beautiful rod. It had an unfortunate incident in a car door though a couple of years ago, still havent got it repaired. Have a look at the Penn Surfblaster range by the way or possibly a cheap PPT of some description might fit the bill for ya.

Yes i have.....it is a nice rod alright.........steve cant u get a K2 for dat sort of money........ur always on about dem.

ok i think i have narrowed it down to:

*Penn SURFBLASTER Outasite Extreme Range
*Penn PPT 14ft Copperhead
*greys greyflex-s

so what are the Pro's and Con's ???

Just to let you know the ppt reange had been discontinued. Theres a new range of rods to replace them but without a copperhead. The affinity 13' 6" M is pretty much the sidewinder which can cast a weight and good bait a fair distance. Its bite detection isn't bad either but its really an allrounder/mixed ground rod. It would probably be over the 200 euro price. Its a petty I could of giving you a go of mine at the last meet.

I picked up a Sidewinder for 250 a couple of months back, nice rod. Thats the one I was using at Tramore.

One thing I would of thought you'd go for a sidewinder over the copperhead as its more in line with outasite. Neil Mackellow uses the sidewinder above all the other ppt rods for fishing and uses it in the US with 7oz leads and big baits at distance. If you can go for ppt/affinity over the surfblaster.
