skate in the bay

back a couple of years ago me the ould boy and my uncle were fishing red bay on the drift between garron point and the ledges a couple of hundred yards off shore all was quiet until my da hooked into sumthing big he was fishing big cod feathers on the bottom tipped with mackeral this fish wouldnt budge no matter wat pressure was applyed then it started to move at a slow pace the boat was started and we followed then unfortunately as he was getting line back the line snapped he definately had the fish in mid water would hav been nice even to see it we all still think this was a skate is this possible has anybody heard of skate been taken outa the bay

There are skate to be caught in Red bay around were your talking about
I thought about the one that got away and it did
