When do the Flatties Clear off?

#1 Post by Drew »

Am I right in saying that Flounders move off to breed some time early in the new year... If so, Whens the latest you can viably fish for them?

you are right in saying that they move off but an exact date i couldnt tell you, ive never really caught a big flounder or place during the winter which might suggest that the mature ones move off. i would how ever say that they usually return back to the shore in wicklow and Dublin around March and early April. the poor bastards do be starvin aswell ive often caught them and they would be like a bag of bones at this time of year.
Wish list for 2015: sword tail, black Molly, horny cobbler
