well, i think we got the brunt of the weed at the masters on it, but having said that it wasnt too bad where we were to get through it, the only way i managed it was to use 65lb braid, i used a grip lead and as the surf lifted the weed and dropped it on the line it seemed to cut throught the most of the weed. still was a good variety of species caught on it that night asides the weed.
Not the BigPhil from Irish Angler mag, I'm the original, i swear!!!!

I was in Rostoonstown on the night of the masters and as far as I could see anyone that knew how to fish the venue in those conditions actually fared a lot better than those that choose to fish the gutter and close in where all the weed gathers. I fish this venue on a regular basis and after a blow its important to fish at distance and to keep rods high, this helps keep line above the weed.
Prior to the Masters many people voiced different views of the event and the anglers fishing. On the night in question I was amazed to see anglers fish the gutter cast after cast and loose rigs, have rods pulled out of rests etc, yet they did'nt even try a different approach. Perhaps too many of the anglers were not familiar with fishing in these conditions on a deep water mark. Look lads this is an excellent venue but try to fish it on calm nights and not after a gale.
