putting on shrink wrap on a rod

#1 Post by carry on nursing »

I have stole a bit of shrink wrap of the boyfriend and want to add to my rod but dont know how.

Its the right size as we have same rod now and he has done the same but it looks very big how do you shrink it to fit.

Please help dont want to ask him or he will know i stole it. Then again he a forum member and will see this but i will have it on by then lol

I'ts fairly simple, put the shrink tube over the rod handle with extra over each end to allow for trimming.
Boil a kettle of water and pour it over the shrink wrap. You will see the shrink wrap shrink (doh! ) to fit nice and snugly around the rods handle. You can do this more than once to get a really good tight fit. Be careful you don't splash yourself.

Another way is to use a hair dryer but I can't comment on this way as I have never tried it. :?

Hope this helps. Don't be scared of it just get on an do it before he sees it's missing as once it's on the rod the only way to get it off is to cut it.

Do exactly what N&G said...it is the best way...keep the rod in your left hand and the butt at an angle so the hot water will run down away from your hand...make sure you rotate the rod as you apply the hot water.

Cut the shrink tube about 1" longer than needed at each end....when its done....trim the end at the top very carefully.....the other end should bend inwards and go inside the blank....this way when you knock the butt cap back on the tube wont move back up the butt.

Good Look.

I cannot over emphase that you put the shrink wrap on the rod before applying the hot water :D A 'friend' of mine thought that you heated it up first and then put it on and ended up with a piece of pipe  boy was he embarassed

#11 Post by pookie5488 »

Yes she my wife but wants to do it all herself and chats on forum as carry on nursing.

She been fishing now 2mnth and takes advice from me but likes second opinon as we all do.

She has learnt alot and is looking forward to her first meet. I have had her out a few times and adviced her to ask lads at the forum for any advice as they helped me no end when i started. We have a mini comp going between us and she is 2 fish up on me already lol

I found out about shrink wrap after it was fitted so thanks for helping her with that one lads she to lazy and still does not like tackle shops as thinks they very male dominated.

Just like rob says above yes iam rumbled iam pookies wife.

I was tired of using his old fishing gear and it was time i got my own kit. I thank all who adviced me and as rob was getting a new rod i thought now was the right time for me to stop having only his point of view and to read up and ask for help as a angler in my own right.

I wanted to be able to suggest a mark or rig to use and have a point of view on why this works.

But real truth is I wanted to challenge rob and you cant do that when everthing is his. And yes iam winning by two fish so cheers lads.

Looking forward to my first meet and putting names to faces, the one thing we both agree on is the help that is always there from other members. If work permiting and we can get child minder we both will be at december meet.
