3 another use for tip lights is puting them on the end of your trace with the tube you get in the packets this helps you see your trace coming in and may aracht some fish on the other hand it might put some off
4 if you plan to go night fishing more than a few times buy yourslf one of the batery powered tip light there well worth the mony i evan go sofar as yousing a bite alarm an the rod with the bait runner
5. a clip pice of wire to hold your latren under your tripod of the ground but ony do this if you trust your tri pod helps spread the light around
6. rechargable bateries for you head lamp make shure your head lamp takes a standred type you can recharge other wise it might cost you 6 euro a night
7. o ya dont forget the coffe

Hanging lanterns on tripods can burn through your trace line, use reflective tape instead of tip lights.

put some reflective tape on the bottom of the rod butts- stops tripping over them etc. handy on rock marks....

there is a school of thought that suggests you should not leave your lantern exposed on the beach as this may scare off some species of fish. instead your lantern should be confined to lighting up shelter / umbrella - directed away from the waterline.

I bought a couple of those MK3 battery powered ones a few weeks ago. They come with a little bracket that fits on the rod tip. Instructions for fitting gave two options. Glue it on or whip it. GLUE!!!! On my prized possession? Gotta be joking. Whip it on? Hell of a lot of work to get a good looking result. Solution: Bought a six inch length of 4 or 5 mm inside dia PVC pipe from a Motor Factors shop for 20 pence. (Some only sell in pre-cut lengths. Watch out). Cut the length into two 3" pieces and then split the tubes lengthwise. Glued the bracket to these and now I have Tip Light holders that simply slip over the rod tip via the split without damage to the rod. Easy to fit and remove before and after casting.

Top of a latern can be used to heat some small rocks, drop them into bowl of water at the end of a session, lovely warm water to wash your hands and stop your steering wheel smelling of fish :)

Those tip lights are a liability, they act as a splint. You have been warned! Stick to the reflective tape. Does a better job too.

the best thing to do with tip lights is this... Do NOT put them on any part of the rod section But DO put then on the sleive of the tip ringdrop a bit of super glue on the tip ring slieve and then attach the tip light holder...
then whip on over the glued end and just whip the end thats over the rod section. In doing this there is no stress put on the rod with the tip light as there is when you glue it between the top two rings,,, Its all to do with Physics...

i have seen rod tips shatter because of stress of the glue in the rod section, but the way i've just mentioned there is no undue stress..

as regards a tip light i put the sleeve onto my rod with sticky tape it seems to ok so far use it a loit now as the winter is here.

Has anybody tried the Power Glow Clip on Light that Veals have on their site?

I normally use the Chemical Starlights and have a holder that clips onto the rod tip and you slide the stalight into a small rubber sleeve.
