Why are the clubs in this country so slow getting involved in the Penn Sea League?

Thats a good question . To register an event is simple , all you need to give is a few months notice and when the event is over stick to results in an envelope back to the Penn Sealeague Headquarters. I don't think that there is an awful lot more involved. With this I can say it must be lack of interest / knowledge of the league.

I know that Southshore SAC in Leinster have a number of penn sea league events, I'm guessing Stephen Brennan has something to do with this. The EFSA winter beach Festival and a few events held in Carrigfergus. Waterville SAC also had an event but the bait been supplied scuppered that one.

For Irish Anglers taking part there needs to be at least a couple of Penn sea league events every Weekend for them to choose from as many of the top british rods are fishing 1-2 events every week. I think that maybe a better approach would be to have a similar league for Ireland maybe supported by an Irish Fishing Magazine / Website / tackle manufacturer or maybe even a Drinks manufacturer .

I think Irish clubs see the Penn sea league as a British Event and unless anglers from individual clubs pressure their committees to enter events into the penn sea league nothing will ever happen. I certainly dont think you get the hard core match anglers on the west coast that you do on the east. So I can not see it happening over here. Thats just my opinion anyway... But I do see it as a great Idea for over here. It seems to have done wonders for Match angling in the UK. It is like the champion league of match angling.

might happen yet! what kind of numbers are needed for a club to obtain penn sea league entrance? how does a club qualify?

its simple.... so simple even i do it! :lol:

drop an email to alan yates or cliff brown at sea angler at least 2 months in advance of the date of your competition, with venue, event name, dates, times, details and contact number, state that you want to enter it for penn sea league.....sorted!

we definately notice that it helps entry with some anglers travelling up from dublin etc for our comp the last 3 years, it is something which can only take off properly here if all club secretaries get on the ball and enter it.

some clubs who hold comps with limited entry on smaller venues dont like to enter it as it may attract more anglers than they can cope with too.

you can enter 6 comps from the one organiser in the year.....i think

m.b.3 it cannot be a club comp, it has got to be an open. ie open to everyone. as big phil said it is so simple to organise, just send an email to alan yates or cliff brown. some clubs don't like it as it attracts the top anglers to fish as they are chasing penn points to prove they are top anglers but if you fish comps you want to prove yourself against the best so go for it, nothing better than beating the top rods from your local area.

Will the Mersey Festival on the 9/10 of December have Penn Points too?

if you mean the "north - west asac" then it will be penn points. to know ifit qualifies for penn points just look in the sea angler in the competition page and if there is a RED SPOT infront of the date then it is a penn point match

I'm hoping to make our next club open a penn pointer, the one just past came too quickly for me to get organised. Seems dead easy to attain and if it draws a bigger crowd to the event then so much the better.

like i said before mark it has to be an open to qualify for penn points.

if 1-10 fish there will be 1 point to the winner
if 10-20 """"""" 2 points 1 st, 1 for 2 nd
if 20-30"""""" 3 "" 1 st, 2 for 2 nd and 1 for 3 rd
if 30-40 """ 4 for 1 st, 3 for 2 nd and 2 for 3 rd

and so on if 200 or over fish you will get 20 for 1 st, 19 for 2 nd and 18 for 3 rd, you will not be awarded more than 20 points however many fish.

lots of clubs do zones and heaviest/longest fish pools as there would be points for this aswell.
