Wardstown Beach, Donegal SAC 18th September 2004

#1 Post by kieran »

Hi

Got a report from Mick Kirwan on their outing to Wardstown Beach on the Erne Estuary. Eight souls braved the gale force oncoming winds to fish the mark. It was their first club match of the season.

1st 14 flounder all well above 250.
2nd 8 flounder.
3rd 7 flounder.

The group fished 2.1/2 hours on the outgoing 1 1/2 hours on the incoming tide. It was blowing a s/w gale with squally rain straight into the face. Bait lug and frozen mackerel. Some only had frozen Mackerel, but it worked.

A total of about 40 flounder between eight anglers, with 35 returned alive, which means the remaining 5 anglers took 11 between them. I was out in the garden that day and even inland it was a fearsome blow.

Those were hard won points!

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks
