Ran out to loop head in glorious november sunshine yesterday to target some of the bigger pollack on the inshore reefs

Unfortunately, the fishing was patchy but a small number of pollack to 7lbs kept it interesting

Made the decision to head 6 miles north west of the head to fish broken ground for the usual bottom suspects

We immediately hit into whiting, and good ones at that averaging almost 2lbs. The killer rig on the day was a team of mini muppets. 3inch long fluoro green squid lures that out fished my hokkais 3 to 1. Not having any more of these, I added a small shad to my bottom hokkai and landed my biggest whiting. A cracking fish at 3lbs 4 ozs.Must look up the specimen size again.This fish then regurgitated a whole herring.Impressive

The green muppets then accounted for a fine 8lbs cod for Edwin before the short winter day forced us to head for home

Great day out, and fish and chips for tea

Well done mate. The Specimen weight for Whiting is 3lb Any Pics? Wouldn't mind seeing a decent whiting. Beats the pins that I catch.

My 2nd specimen of the year then, and its a whiting!

Sadly, I never bother with pics of small fish like that, as they always look tiny when held by an angler. I will have to find some way of taking a good pic of a small fish .Any suggestions appreciated

For small fish you can hold like this. fill out the shot with the fish and make sure the focus is good, hold by the gill opeculum on the side near to you and support low down the body with your other hand so you are not obscuring the fish with you fingers.

the trout below was less than 2lbs but still loooks well as its held in this way. if you hold the gill cover gently the fish can be returned no problem, this trout was. if the fish is to be kept you can push you fingers inside the gill to hold more securely.
