ballycastle beach co antrim - ulster bass sac open comp

#1 Post by BigPhil »

People:me and many others...dont know many many!

Duration:4-9pm

Tide:full around 6.30

Weather: nice, the sea not so nice!

Bait:lug rag mack sandeel and other bits and pieces

Rigs: various

Results: won by steven brewster with 3 fish, second dinger from the forum with 3 fish....i think!!

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:ballycastle, spring high tide, nightmare!!

personally i didnt get a bite all evening and tried everything, also had to fish from the dunes as the surge pushed right up over the whole beach at high tide and the weed was horrendous!, mostly leaves etc but in the pounding surf it proved very hard to fish, some of us had to go to 30lb straight through and 7oz grips and we still got pulled around the place!
the few people that did catch fish had flounder coalies and turbot.

i had 1 coalie of 29cm and half a tree and alot of other rubbish....i also ended up fishin from the car park at high tide and lost god knows how many traces so i ended up using the sl30 with 40lb straight through and 7oz wire grips with elastic bands on them and still could hold bottom...very hard fishing indeed oh and got hit by a wave and lost my lunch, half my bait and my fillet knife and nearly my rods and reels and i was at by the steps that go down onto the beach when it happened

yeah, guy broke the tip of his rod too trying to pull in his gear!!! so much debris in the water it was unreal in places on the beach.....its a bad job when i had to deploy the 535mag on a clean beach!!! :lol:

in my opinion it was not safe to be fishing there....especially for the junior anglers some of which were only around 11 years old or so.

well mark, i seem to be needing more toughening this weather than every before!!, for me , the conditions at the night session at the masters werent even as bad as that!!! myself and the guy on the peg next to me simply couldnt even fish for about 1 hour 15mins at high water, we never even attepted to cast a line into it! it was that bad at one point we had 3 casts each inside around 5-10 minutes!
