Personally I've always been put off by wire for Tope.... Don't know why, as I use it for pike fishing all the time.

I'll say mono, but I haven't a clue...

Wire.

we use break cables for the tope on our traces while fishing from the shore in kilcoole. ive seen a load of good tope being lost when people use mono.

they never get through the break cables. never.

Samo,

Do you find that you sometime get dropped takes with such heavy wire. I'm thinking in clear water the mono might be a better choice and you'll get more hook up's. :?:

ive only ever fished for tope in the dark. what i will say is that tope wont usually drop a bait when they hit a bait first they hit it hard and will run with the bait for anything from 50 to 100 meters this is the first run they do and this run is done by the tope to get away with the food from any other tope in the area. it is not unusual for tope to be in a pack.

after this run you will usually make a bit of ground on them but as soon as you get them near the shore or the boat they will go for another one. usually they will go for between 2 and 4 runs but some times it could be for more.

for this reason i go for the wire because it wont frade as much as the mono and you need to be confident in your end takcle when dealing with mr. tope.

D Samsonator.

Interesting, I'll keep it in mind for sure, especially if I ever break one off. But first I'll have to hook one.

12" 75lb wire is ideal.
