Selling Bass
Pity to hear today that a large Bass caught in Waterford last week end was sold to a Chinese restaurant in the city for €40 plus a free take away.

If you have solid evidence that this happend, contact your fishery board and give them the proof. If they fail to follow up on your lead contact your local T.D. (down south) these people will be around knocking at our doors fairley soon looking for our votes. The C.F.B. now know the value of sea angling tourism to this country it's up to us anglers to make sure they do not forget.

Don't see anything wrong with selling a conger myself, but I'd be more concerned as to what the Chinese restaurant were using Conger for
A bad day fishing is better than a good day at the office!

They'll cook anything. Heard of a Chinese in Dublin that had "lakefish" on the menu. When asked what lakefish was, they replied it was whatever they got in that week - pike/perch/roach/bream, etc. I'm sure the same goes for sea fish....
Conger might not be a delicacy to most (except Steve  ) but add enough monosodium glutamate it'll taste jus' like chicken....

Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

Conger is delicacy on mainland Europe, especially In Brittany where Conger is used in soups and stews. Whoever has been to Brittany and looked at the fish counter in the supermarket will see Conger, Wrasse and Sandeels amongst the cod.
So if you have some sort of fish dish in a chinese I can only imagine what they will give you....

I remember watching an episode of "Cook on the wild side" with Hugh Fearnley Twittingstall (Ahem) and having run out of food or having caught no fish or something proceeded to fry his sandeel bait. He described them as disgusting.....
This is the Hugh who having followed the series have seen him tackle just about anything. If he turned his nose up at it you may rest well assured I will too....

A friend of mine fried up some of his bait after a fruitless fishing session. He was violently sick afterwards. Maybe it's not such a good idea
Not to mind those Frenchies, sure they'd eat anything without hair on it  .
