Greystones, North Beach, Wicklow, 28-29th Oct 2006

People:Myself and my younger brother Aidan.

Duration: From about 8 on the evening of the 28th until about 10 in the morning of the 29th, about 14 hours in total.

Tide: All stages.

Weather: Dry, slightly misty towards dawn.

Bait:Rag, Frozen Mackerel, Peeler, Small squid, large squid.

Rigs: Pennel 1/0 and 4/0 kamesan B940 hooks on a paternoster and 1/0's on the same.

Results: 1 Conger about 10lb, 1 Dogfish and about 7 spotted Dogfish, 1 pollock.

Catch and Release:: Yes and No

Report: The night started well with a conger about an hour into it, then the dogfish started to run and were coming in pretty regularly all night. It was good fun, we had three rods out. Fish were not out that far, being caught between 30 and 70 metres and not much further. There were some other lads there fishing directly on the stream that enters the sea there but they claimed to be having no luck.

An extremely enjoyable evening was had and it won't be long before I hit the beach in the same spot again. I can't wait to try the South beach when the work has been finished there, apparently that's affecting the sport there.

I had no luck the last two weekends in Killiney at all.

Well done Eoin - good wee session there.

Your spotted dog fish might have been Bull Huss - did they have little pointy bits of flesh above the mouth?

Actually looks more like what I posted, the large patches were more evident on what we were catching like the lesser spotted moreso than the bull huss.
Also one of them was pure blonde with no markings at all, maybe it was a smoothhound? Am not sure about that one, thought I had seen called a common doggie somewhere.

<edt>None of them were above about 4lb and the average was about 3.5

Sounds like Lesser Spotted Dogfish mate.

The Smoothhounds are grey in colour.

This weekend was first really productive time, up until then I'd been in and about Dublin only and it was nowhere near as good.
