Portaferry Pier, Co Down, 29/10/06

#1 Post by Drew »

People: Hairyconger & Me

Duration: 4pm - 7pm

Tide: Big and Wet...

Weather: Southerly Breeze, Bit of Rain.

Bait: Ragoworm

Rigs: 2 Boom Scratcher, 2 Hook Clipped Down w/Cascade & Imp.

Results: 5 Coalies to 2lb, 2 Wrasse 1.5lb, 2 Codling 6oz, 2 Pollack to 2lb

Catch and Release:: YES!

Report: Decided to waste the rest of the Rag, Headed to Portaferry Pier to find a couple of Foreign lads fishing the end, As we pulled up one got an absolutely amazing bite which he didn't see! By the time we were on the pier we told him of the bite he reeled in his slack and connected with a nice Coalfish of about 4lb!

Hairy and Myself then got down to business, Had to fish in the main Tidal flow at the Start, was hard to hold Bottom, but it worked with 210g Grippers. Hairy got a few Small Rattles and while he was retrieving the First Fish, A Small Pollack, I got a serious rattle which ended up in a nice Red Coloured Ballan Wrasse.

The Foreigners packed up and left and we moved to our usual spot on the Pier, and were immediately greeted with the Usual Small Knocks from the Mini Codling. Next I got a Savage Bite from a Coalfish Which give a stunning Fight, Staying Deep The Whole way to the pier. I got it in and a Photo was taken, I then rebaited and cast to the same Area, Almost Immediately the Sandstorm Slammed over for another nice Coalfish.

Things continued in this sort of trend until we ran out of Rag. All in all a great session with a great stamp of Fish. Good to get a couple of Wrasse before they clear off for the winter. 8)

On another note, I opted for the SL30SH Tonight for the Winding power, and wasn't disappointed, Managed to get the Fish out of the Snag Zone very quickly, also found it cast well with 35lb Line to a 60lb Leader, Havent Cast Line that Heavy in Quite some time...

Pics added tomorrow.

we need help badly :!: .............drew has lost weight..........lets help him find it. :!: :!:
only joking.mate. i can't say anything about weight

i take it that your usual spot at portaferry is at the end of the pier.
when fishing at portaferry i usually end up over the whole pier,as i find one spot fishes for a while then another spot fishes for a while and so on...
i fished there this time last year nearly every week and found feathers were as good as any bait.saying that i was fishing it in the dark and think it was the flood light that was drawing them in rather than my dodgy fishing.
will have to get back there this week end-weather permitting(it is bl**dy cold and windy there.even if there is only a slight breeze)--oh and wife premitting...........any ideals  on loosing the wife, never mind my weight :?: only joking love, just incase she reads this comment....
