5 Mile Point, Wicklow.

#1 Post by col »

People:me

Duration:10:30am-2pm

Tide:dunno exactly deff rising pretty fast towards the end

Weather:no wind, flat calm and jumper not required

Bait:all frozen:razor,mack, black lug, peeler and squid plus berkly gulp worm

Rigs: one up one down and pennels

Results:one tiny dab and one decent sized plaice

Catch and Release:: yip

Report:Tried all variations of above baits, including large lug/squid cocktails and razor baits should a rogue bigger fish come along. At the begining I was getting a few bites but these ceased completely for the latter 3rd of the session, the time when I would have expected more with the tide rising.Might have had something to do with the appearance of a huge seal. The plaice, at about a pound, was a nice surprise and I also managed a freak (for me!) long cast of well over 150yrds which I couldn't replicate afterwards :oops:
Had gone expecting dogs and whiting, neither showed.

Hadn't gone fishing in ages and it was a very pleasent day to be out, good weather, no wind and even a fish or two to boot.

Hi Eoghan, the one I'm talkin about is between Newcastle and Killoughter. Would have fished Killoughter but apparently the road down was in a bad way so stuck with 5 mile. I'm pretty sure thats what the place is called anyway, hadn't heard of the places you mention.

I know where you mean now.
I usually fish that beach in the winter for Cod if I get bored as it can turn up a few decent fish sometimes. Fishes best on low water at night I have found.

I used normally try to make 2hrs b4 high tide but on the occasions that I've just headed out for a quick while and its happened to be low water I've had better results too, so this certainly seems the time to be there.
