fixed spool reel

#1 Post by Millsy »

Hey I bought a fixed spool reel for beach casting a few months ago.....since then ive found my grandads old boat rod (hopefully it wont snap, its fairly old) and i was wondering wether my reel would be suitable for light boat fishing inshore.
Any help would be much appreciated.

if you take it easy and it's a half decent reel you'll get away with it no prob.

yeah it should be fine. i use a fixed spool on the boat sometimes with a spinning rod for pollock and have landed double figure fish easily enough. make sure you pump the fish though as a fixed wont take the same strain a mult will.
