nudest beach Kiliney

Dear all,

I am thinking of fishing the cliffs along the nudest beach near kiliney, has anyone ever fished this spot and if so have you any tips. i did hear a few sessions ago of small cockoo ray getting caught from the spot but i dont know how true this is. i have also heard that i will not have to bring any bait with me as there is plently of old wrinkle lug worm at the spot. :lol: but seriously any advice would be appriciated.

samo are you talking of whiterock? or the spot from the rocks to the left? i have heard from a reliable source that ray are taken from killiney. if it is the rocks to left of whiterock i have only heard of plaice and wrasse being caught here. castin out over rocks should give whiting, coalies and rockling around now. dab possible too.

i am talkin to the left of white rock the little cove before the edge's house from u.2. i heard of the ray from kiliney my self and have also seen pics of smooth hounds taken from in front of the life gaurds hut. they had the hut in the back ground so they were real. it seems to me alot of the species we would regards as being associated with the south and south east are migrating more northerly every year.

for example smooth hounds have also been caught from the back of the east pier.

do you share the same view?

as far as ray are concerned and if rumours are true then they have been caught there for a while now. had a run from what i am convinced was a smoothhound at whiterock 2 years ago- June. smoothound are taken at poolbeg quite regularly and a lad from southshore had a large thornback off it during the year. smoothhound have been taken as far up the coast as malahide and i reckon they could be caught on beaches north of here but for lack of trying. i am just waitin for the day i catch a triggerfish whilst fishin for wrasse :D !

ye i heard of them getting caught at poolbeg light house before, went down to see if i could fish there with my mate but it looked like a bit of a dodgie place to leave my mates car. where do you get access to fish it from. my auld lad used to fish it when he was younger at the hot waters or some thing and said that they used to catch good bass on the rag they would collect from the area.

it wouldnt surprise me if you did get a run from a smoothie on white rock its a perfect location for them a sand bank and rough ground either side which does hold plenty of crabs.

one of my mates caught a bream from the slip on feathers while trying for lance. i think he still has it in the freezer. it wasnt a black bream it was silver with a tiny tint of red on its back, it wasnt big either was only around a quater of a pound.

samo i haven't fished poolbeg much. it does look like a dodgy place to leave a car alright!! i haven't heard any reports of damage or theft. most just complain about the walk! u can take codling in rough stuff at end of pier. wrasse common enough too.

is the sandbank at whiterock on left of bay? nice place to fish but tooooo many people. have had good flounder off it and a good dab around christmas . otherwise whiting, coalies and rockling. had plaice in summer fishing in between the swimmers!! never again!

the sand bank is just to the right of the slip and in front of it we used to pull nets there for sand eels during the summer around 10 years ago. when we where sortin out the eels we would always have a goo lot of flats in it. every type turbot, brill, sole , place , flounder , dab. but they were only some so the bank must be like a nursery. we would also get a load of weavers " probable something all those swimmers dont know about".

to the left of the ledge there is a little rock pinicle i used to catch a few guarnard from it ages ago but i havent fished the place in donkeys now. its also the place were i say the biggest bass of my life must have been at least double figures and it just shot out of the water straight in front of me. i had no spinning or pluggin gear with me so i didnt try for it but i wouldnt say i would have caught it either it was probable only teasing me.

turbot, brill, sole


it's funny how often these fish turn up in nets and rockpools in dublin bay and you'd be hard pushed to catch one. where do they go?!? redrock has lots of little sole in it. dollymount strand similar. turbot at channel near sutton golf club.

ye i know i have only ever really seen one turbot getting weighed in in a compotition. i would how ever say that the sand banks of kiliney and to the south ot dalkey island could produce some flats in the boats if you where to try for them.

I've fished the nudist swimming place at Killiney lots over the years, usually spinning for pollack - nice and deep on high tides from the rocks, kelp beds on the bottom. Keep the binocs for feeding seabirds - the old wrinkleys that swim there might put you off your dinner.

From a boat, the sandbanks in the Bay produce very little. I once had a ray, couple of dabs and of course the obligatory Doggies..

i fished it durning the summer got a few dogs on sand eel had some fresh peeler but no joy wit them

there can be massive numbers of flounder in close on the beach 20feet out can be too much. mostly small though.

Ive seen the nudist beach from a boat not really a beach its a bunch of rocks. Some dodgy looking people there :!: . Looking at Killiney beach from the sea the old changing rooms are in front of you its around the corner on the right there are steps carved out of the rock not sure where you go down to the steps.

Was bass fishing there recently and was surprised to see a group of ould one and lads prancing around in and out of the surf. Didn't catch a single fish...reckon they frightened them away. Sure they nearly frightened me away.

Spinning can good for bass in this area but it getting a bit late in the year at this stage.
